On Wednesday, August 21, the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced Faruque Ahmed as its new president. The former Bangladesh captain and selector will succeed the outspoken Nazmul Papon, who was removed amid Bangladesh’s political crisis.

Faruque Ahmed, a former national cricketer and head selector, has succeeded Nazmul Hasan as board president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

Iftekhar Ahmed, the chairman of the BCB’s umpires committee, told some news sources on Wednesday that the development was confirmed. In the ministry of youth and sports, the BCB is currently holding a board meeting. Ahmed was elected, and the previous president resigned.

Iftekhar, also known as Mithu, said in the affirmative when some news agency inquired as to whether Faruque Ahmed had taken Nazmul’s job as BCB manager.

Earlier, Nazmul was willing to step down, according to news reports. Serving his fourth term as the head of the nation’s cricket governing body, he and his spouse have been living in hiding in London since the start of the country’s instability, which was sparked by student demonstrations against the recently disbanded Sheikh Hasina government.

Faruque, who represented Bangladesh in seven One-Day Internationals, held the position of BCB chief selector twice before, from 2003 to 2007 and again from 2013 to 2016. He had left his position as chief selector before serving out his second term. This was due to his inability to accept the selection panel’s expansion to include three additional members.
