The All India Football Federation (AIFF) suspension by Fifa, the organisation that oversees international football, has been lifted, paving the way for India to resume playing in international competition and to host the Fifa U-17 Women’s WorldCup later this year.

It was the first time in the 85-year history of the federation that Fifa has suspended it for “undue intervention by a third party” last week. The U-17 Women’s World Cup’s hosting rights were abandoned as a result of the suspension. In a letter to Sunando Dhar, acting general secretary of the AIFF, Fifa secretary general Fatma Samoura stated that “the Bureau of the Council resolved on August 25, 2022, to lift the suspension of the AIFF with immediate effect.”

Samoura claimed that as a result, India can host the U-17 Women’s World Cup as scheduled from October 11 to October 30. India has been informed by Fifa that it must now satisfy additional requirements in order to prevent a further suspension of AIFF.
