Floodlight malfunction leads to a 30-minute delay in the KKR Chase vs PBKS

Due to the malfunction of flood lights in the KKR-Chase PBKS, the match was delayed by 30 minutes

In the chase of KKR against PBKS in the IPL season 2023 match on Saturday, play was delayed by almost thirty minutes due to a floodlight malfunction. The PCA-IS Bindra Stadium here has a total of six floodlights at a comparatively lower height. Floodlight malfunction is a quite common problem at Indian stadiums; hence, on the day when KKR came to bat, a lot of bulbs in multiple towers didn’t turn on, and it became quite a frustrating wait for the players, who then went inside the dressing room. The onus on stadium maintenance lies with the Punjab Cricket Association, and the inordinate delay was certainly an embarrassment for the local unit.
As of now, the cause of the malfunction hasn’t been determined, but it is a given that the PCA brass will be getting a rap on the knuckles from the BCCI bigwigs. This delay also causes a lot of problems for the broadcaster, as the match will now end after 7.30 p.m.
The Punjab Kings lost momentum the second half of their inning after being asked to bat, adding only 91 runs for four wickets and setting a target of 191 for five in 20 overs.
