Kane Williamson need surgery after injuring the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during fielding in the first game of the IPL 2023.

Kane Williamson of New Zealand will miss the 2023 ODI World Cup in India after rupturing a knee ligament during a game between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Williamson, who was signed by GT at the mini auction last year, need surgery after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while fielding in the IPL 2023 opener. In response to the news of Williamson’s injury, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam shared a heartfelt message for his Kiwi opponent.

Babar wished Williamson a speedy recovery, claiming the star batter will come back stronger.

“Come back stronger. “Get well soon, @kane_s_w,” Babar captioned a selfie of himself with Williamson.

Williamson’s absence would be a big setback for the Black Caps, who have never won the World Cup but have finished runners-up in the last two championships.

“Naturally, it’s disappointing to have such an injury, but my focus now is on having the surgery and beginning rehab,” Williamson said in a statement.

“It’ll take some time, but I’ll do everything I can to get back on the pitch as soon as possible.”

Williamson hurt his knee while attempting a catch in the first game of the IPL last Friday, staggering off the field with the assistance of two physios.

The New Zealander is regarded as one of the game’s best batsmen.

He was instrumental in their run to the 2019 World Cup final, when Williamson was named player of the tournament.

New Zealand came up just short, losing to England on a boundary countback in a nail-biting Super Over following a tie in the final.

Williamson stepped down as New Zealand’s Test captain in December, although he continues to lead the ODI and Twenty20 teams.
