During Wednesday’s IPL 2025 match against Gujarat Titans, captain Sanju Samson of the Rajasthan Royals was fined Rs 24 lakh for his team’s slow over-rate.

Sanju Samson, captain of the Rajasthan Royals, was fined Rs 24 lakh for his team’s sluggish over-rate against Gujarat Titans in Wednesday’s IPL 2025 match. It was a terrible day for RR as the Samson-led team lost by 58 runs after being well outplayed by GT. RR maintained a slow over-rate during this year’s competition for the second time, and Samson was fined for violating the IPL code of conduct. Riyan Parag, the stand-in captain, was already fined Rs 12 lakh after the match against the Chennai Super Kings.”The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, will be fined either INR six lakhs or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” according to a press release from the IPL.Meanwhile, Samson conceded that his team let the game slip away at crucial points in their 58-run loss to Gujarat Titans (GT) at Narendra Modi Stadium. Chasing a tough mark of 218, RR were bowled out for 159 in 19.2 overs by Gujarat’s bowlers, who went through the batting lineup.

Samson, speaking after the game, cited lapses in both bat and ball execution.

“We gave away 15-20 runs extra in the bowling,” he stated, according to ESPNcricinfo.

“We lost wickets just when we needed to gain momentum. Sixes and fours continued to come for Hettie [Shimron Hetmyer]. But I lost my wicket, and that’s why we lost the game,” he said.Samson scored 41 runs off 28 deliveries, including four boundaries and two sixes. He and Riyan Parag put on a 48-run stand, providing a glimmer of hope until Gujarat’s disciplined bowling assault brought them down.

The RR captain praised Jofra Archer for his outstanding start with the ball.

“Jofra started well; he picked up Shubman’s wicket. Then we went off track. We planned something, but they did something different. “We’ll have to look into that tomorrow,” Samson stated. This season, the Royals have demonstrated strength while hitting first, but questions have been raised about their ability to chase down large totals under pressure. Samson acknowledged the argument, but emphasized the team’s commitment to becoming a well-rounded unit.

“When we lose games, we wonder if we should have chased. “Should we have done something else?” he wondered.

“We want to be a team that wins games while chasing, not just win batting first,” according to him.

The Royals now face a critical period of introspection as they look to bounce back and regain momentum in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
