The India A team will be led by domestic batting legend Sitanshu Kotak in the forthcoming series against New Zealand A, which begins on September 1.
Sairaj Bahutule, a former India leg spinner, will work alongside Kotak as a coach for the three Test matches in Bengaluru and Hubbali as well as the three one-day internationals in Chennai.
Normally, the NCA president oversees the A teams, but Kotak received the position after Rahul Dravid’s positive COVID-19 test resulted in VVS Laxman being designated the senior team’s interim head coach.
With the help of NCA, the BCCI now has a pool of coaches who work with A, Emerging (U20), and U19 teams on a rotating basis.
They may also be sent to senior team assignments that overlap, as was the case when Kotak was in Ireland and Hrishikesh Kanitkar was in Zimbabwe.
