When MS Dhoni’s team won the 2011 ODI World Cup, Gary Kirsten was their head coach.

World Cup-winning Gary Kirsten will lead the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in ODIs and T20Is, while former Australian bowler Jason Gillespie will assume the position for Test cricket. The PCB’s announcement on Sunday marked a substantial change in operations. Kirsten’s previous successful experiences with South Africa and India include winning the 2011 OD World Cup with the MS Dhoni-led team, which is undoubtedly the biggest memory. They were joined in their role as the team’s assistant coach across all formats by Azhar Mahmood, a former all-rounder for Pakistan.

Kirsten stated that his major goal is still to bring the Pakistan white-ball team together when discussing his decision to become the team’s coach.

It’s an immense privilege to be given the job of leading the Pakistan men’s national team in white-ball cricket and to return to the world of international cricket after a hiatus. I’m excited about the chance to support the Pakistan men’s national squad in limited-overs cricket and want to make a positive impact.

In order to establish a steady and predictable environment where players may perform to the best of their abilities, Kirsten’s approach is centered on giving constancy in team selections first priority. He thinks that for the squad to succeed in international events, they must remain a cohesive unit and develop strong team relations.

“The universality of cricket is one of its lovely aspects. When we talk about the game, people from different cultures have a common understanding. “My aim is to bring the Pakistan men’s white-ball team together, utilizing their exceptional abilities for a shared goal, and succeeding on the field as a team,” he stated.

Kirsten, who is now the Gujarat Titans’ IPL coach, is anticipated to take over for Pakistan starting on May 22 during their tour of England.

Following four Twenty20 International matches, Pakistan’s squad will depart for the T20 World Cup in June.

After the 50-over World Cup ended last year and Pakistan was unable to advance to the knockout stages, they began looking for a full-time head coach.

Following their disastrous performance at the major tournament in India, Pakistan fired all four of its head coaches: Andrew Puttick, bowling coach Morne Morkel, team director Mickey Arthur, and head coach Grant Bradburn.

With Pakistan choosing to name pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi as their white-ball leader and Shan Masood fulfilling that role in Tests, premier hitter Babar Azam was also relieved of his captaincy following the ICC spectacular.

In addition, Pakistan had looked to Muhammad Hafeez, a former cricket player, to serve as their tour guide in Australia.

But after Pakistan lost 1-4 in the Twenty20 Internationals and 0-3 in the Test series, Hafeez was fired.

In the final week of March, Masood remained the Test captain, but Afridi lost his position as captain and Babar was brought back.

Nevertheless, despite contacting some well-known individuals, like Matthew Hayden and Shane Watson, Pakistan was unable to secure a permanent head coach.

They eventually settled on Gillespie, who has a wealth of coaching experience with English county side Sussex, and Kirsten, who had guided India to the World Cup victory in 2011.
