Former coach of the Indian cricket team, Ravi Shastri, offers advice to off-colour Surya Kumar Yadav

Surya Kumar Yadav has scored 16 runs in the first two matches of MI and was dismissed for zero runs in the last match.

At one point, it looked like Suryakumar Yadav was on a mission after breaking into the Indian team back in 2021. However, the number one T20I batsman has been going through a lean patch with the bat. Kumar Yadav, who was known for his innovative stroke-making and counter-attacking in cricket, has been struggling to even touch the ball as he got out on three consecutive golden balls during the India-Australia ODI series, which ended last month. Now his struggles have continued in the Mumbai Indians’ first two games of IPL season 2023. In the first match, he got dismissed for 15 runs against RCB, whereas against Chennai Super Kings, he scored only one run and lost his wicket.
Now, before the match of the Mumbai Indians against the Delhi Capitals on Tuesday, farmer, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, Ravi Shastri, urged Suryakumar Yadav to be more patient early in his knock.
Shastri told ESPNCricinfo that “there’s going to be light at the end of the tunnel; he’s going to be seeing that very soon.” And when he sees that, he’s going to grab it and make the most of it. So the advice to him would be, “Just give yourself a little bit of time early on, even though it’s T20 cricket.”
He also added that “one good hit and you’re on your way.” That’s what he needs: one good hit and a little bit of time at the crease. “Not for 20 to 30 minutes; maybe six or eight balls, and I think he’d be fine.”
