On February 14, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans will play the first game of the Women’s Premier League 2025.
Aakash Chopra, a former cricket player for India’s men’s team, thinks the Delhi Capitals are among the favorites to win the WPL 2025. He says that even though they have lost the trophy before, their play would be more consistent this time. In the league stages of the WPL 2023 and 2024, DC topped the table, however they finished second both times, including at their home stadium, Arun Jaitley Stadium. On February 15, DC will play their first match of the 2025 WPL against the Mumbai Indians at Vadodara.
“Trophies are always used to determine success, but the Delhi Capitals have genuinely stood out in the first two seasons of the TATA WPL due to their style of play and consistency. I understand they haven’t won a championship yet, but they came extremely close last season. “Given their performances, they will undoubtedly be one of the favorites this year,” Chopra remarked on Disney Hotstar Monday.
Captain Meg Lanning and youthful Shafali Verma will return as DC’s opening pair, but Chopra is skeptical of their ability to gel in the WPL 2025 season.Meg has only played cricket on occasion since her international retirement, and Shafali has been dropped from the Indian team following a disappointing ODI series against New Zealand last year.
Shafali returned to domestic cricket and finished as the leading run-getter in the Senior Women’s One-Day Challenger Trophy, scoring 414 runs in five matches at an average of 82.80 and a strike rate of 145.26, including a century and three fifties. She also scored 527 runs at an average of 75.29 and a strike-rate of 152.31, making her the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy’s top run scorer. Meg Lanning hasn’t been playing at her best since she retired from international cricket. Shafali Verma, meanwhile, is no longer a member of the Indian team.Although neither of them has been scoring runs on a regular basis, I’m interested to watch how they do in the WPL’s third season. There’s no doubt about it—it will be both difficult and thrilling,” Chopra said.
