Following India’s 2024 T20 World Cup victory, Bumrah was named “Player of the Tournament.”
The former opening batsman for India, Gautam Gambhir, unveiled his vision for the team during his eagerly awaited maiden news conference as the team’s new head coach on Monday. He spoke a wide range of subjects at the press conference, including the significance of workload management for Jasprit Bumrah, the top pacer, whom he referred to as a “rare bowler.” Workload management is crucial for someone like Jasprit (Bumrah), as I’ve mentioned previously. Anybody would love to have him as a rare bowler. He should play meaningful games, right? In the press conference, Gambhir stated, “That’s why workload management is vital for fast bowlers as well as for me.Bumrah has often demonstrated his usefulness for the Indian team. The 30-year-old has previously spent significant time on the bench and spent the majority of 2022 in and out of the Indian team. He missed the 2022 T20 World Cup, in which India was eliminated in the semi-finals, and then underwent back surgery in March 2023, keeping him out for another four months.
His return was marked by his captaincy debut in the India-Ireland series in August 2023. He followed this up with an outstanding performance at the 2023 ODI World Cup, and then went on to bowl historic figures during the T20 World Cup winning campaign, demonstrating his value to the bowling unit. The newly appointed head coach continued by saying that while fast bowlers’ workload management is crucial, hitters should still be ready for all game formats.
“Playing all formats is a good option if you are a batter who is hitting well. Virat and Rohit will now play in two formats as they have retired from Twenty20 international cricket. For the majority of the games, hopefully, they are accessible,” he continued.
