According to a rumor, Hardik Pandya, the current vice captain of the Indian cricket team, is expected to be replaced by Suryakumar Yadav as captain for the forthcoming Twenty20 International series against Sri Lanka.
According to a report, Indian cricket skipper Suryakumar Yadav is predicted to be named ahead of vice captain Hardik Pandya for the forthcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka. After India’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2024, captain Rohit Sharma, captain Virat Kohli, and player Ravindra Jadeja left the format for international cricket. In the T20I series against Zimbabwe, Shubman Gill was named captain; however, Suryakumar is being considered for the captaincy, as Gautam Gambhir assumed the role of head coach prior to the Sri Lanka series.Hardik was expected to succeed Rohit as the long-term T20I skipper, but his fitness issues and workload management may result in Suryakumar taking the job. Hardik has missed several matches in the last year owing to injuries.
It is said that Gambhir and Agarkar discussed the change of plans with Pandya earlier last evening, explaining that a long-term solution was being developed to assure stability.
The T20 leadership position became vacant after Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from international cricket in the shortest format following India’s World Cup victory in the West Indies last month. One of the stars of that triumph, Pandya, will take a break for “personal reasons” during the three-match ODI series against the island nation. The ODIs versus Sri Lanka will take place in Colombo from August 2 to 7, after the T20Is against them from July 27 to 30 in Pallekele.
In the coming days, the series roster is anticipated to be revealed. The reason behind Hardik’s departure from ODIs is deeply personal. The official stated, “He doesn’t have any fitness issues, despite what the media suggests.”
