Marsh and Maxwell had both been ruled out of the international lineup due to injuries.

Mitch Marsh and Glenn Maxwell are set to make their return to international cricket as part of the ODI series in India next month. Cricket Australia has named a 16-man squad for the three-match One-Day International series against India, which will help them prepare for the World Cup later this year in India.

Along with the two all-rounders, pacer Jhye Richardson will return to the national team. So far in the ongoing Test series, three players have returned home for various reasons. While David Warner was ruled out of the series due to an injury midway through the second Test, Ashton Agar returned home to play domestic cricket for Western Australia.

Meanwhile, Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, returned home for personal reasons but will be back in time for the start of the third Test next week. Marsh and Maxwell have both missed a lot of time due to surgeries they underwent over the home summer, but they will play on the three-match tour that will take place after the current Test campaign, with games set to take place in Mumbai, Vizag, and Chennai.

While Maxwell has been representing Victoria at the Sheffield Sheild, Marsh is expected to play for Western Australia in the Marsh One-Day Cup this weekend, and the all-rounder duo will be crucial in Australia’s ODI campaign during the World Cup, which is set to take place in October-November this year.

Richardson has also returned to the squad after missing international cricket due to injury. He missed the BBL finals due to a hamstring injury and hasn’t played since January . Since the end of Australia’s white-ball tour of Sri Lanka last year, the 26-year-old has not played for his country. Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out of the ODI series due to an Achilles injury that forced him to withdraw from the Test series early.

Australia ODI squad: Pat Cummins (c), Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Jhye Richardson, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, Adam Zampa
