Green’s IPL performances could earn him a spot in the T20 World Cup

Due to his concentrate on red-ball cricket this month, the allrounder will not play in T20Is against the West Indies or New Zealand.

Cameron Green is strongly in the minds of Australia’s selectors for the T20 World Cup, with the upcoming IPL set to influence how the final roster is assembled ahead of the competition in June.

Green was left out of the two T20I series against the West Indies and New Zealand to focus on red-ball preparation for the Tests against the latter, which will include a Sheffield Shield appearance for Western Australia against Tasmania next week, but he might still play in the World Cup.

He will return to the IPL in late March, having been transferred from Mumbai Indians to Royal Challengers Bangalore, and his performance there could yet convince the selectors.

“Yeah, very firmly,” national selector George Bailey replied when asked if Green was still in contention. “We know he’s going to the IPL and receive a lot of T20 cricket experience. It’s a constant conversation with multi-format players, determining the priority at any given time and ensuring they get what they need, but he’s clearly one whose name, I believe, will be firmly in the mix as we finalize that 15-man World Cup roster.”
