Due to his commitment to represent Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield final, the Australian star will be unavailable for the Gujarat Titans’ IPL 2024 opener.

According to news report that Matthew Wade, an Australian wicketkeeper-batter, will skip Gujarat Titans’ (GT) opening game in the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 in order to play for Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield final. Tasmania’s Sheffield Shield final is scheduled for March 21–25. The Australian cricket player will be absent from the Gujarat-based team’s opening match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on March 25.

Nevertheless, news reports that his availability for their IPL match against the Chennai Super Kings on March 27 “may be tight.” However, GT will play Sunrisers Hyderabad in its third tournament match on March 31.

Wade’s participation in the Sheffield Shield final has been approved by GT, the IPL team, and Tasmania head coach Jeff Vaughan acknowledged this to the media.

“He’s had a conversation with his IPL team, and they’re willing to let him remain here, so he might miss their opening game. We consider ourselves really fortunate to have someone of Matt’s caliber returning to our team, especially considering his past successes and experience near the end of the season,” Vaughan was cited by news sources.

The 36-year-old cricketer, who played for Victoria for ten years, returned to Tasmania during the 2017–18 Sheffield Shield season and was a member of the team that Queensland defeated in the tournament’s championship match.
