Guyana Amazon Warriors won the 2023 CPL final by nine wickets over Trinbago Knight Riders.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated the Trinbago Knight Riders by nine wickets in the finals of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023 on Monday, September 25, at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

The Warriors were the greatest team in the competition, finishing first in the league with eight victories and only one loss. Despite finishing second in the points table, Trinbago defeated Guyana in Qualifier 1. The Imran Tahir-led team had to take the longer route to the final, defeating the Jamaica Tallawahs in Qualifier 2.

In the final, Tahir won the toss and chose to bat first against Kieron Pollard’s side. The four-time winners struggled with the willow, losing six wickets for 49 runs in the opening ten overs. Keacy Carty fought hard, but his 45-ball 38 couldn’t get the Knight Riders to three figures.

Guyana was given a meagre target of 95 . Keemo Paul, an all-rounder, hit a couple of boundaries before being removed by Akeal Hosein. The Warriors’ innings saw only one wicket fall, as the in-form duo of Saim Ayub and Shai Hope completed with nine wickets and six overs to spare. The former finished unbeaten on 52 off 41 balls, while Hope concluded with 32* from the same number of balls. The West Indies batter finished the competition with the most runs, while Ayub was a close second.

Dwaine Pretorius was selected Player of the Match for his outstanding performance, finishing with figures of 4/26 to break the Trinbago innings. In addition, he finished the event with the most wickets. Hope was named Player of the Series after scoring the most runs in the competition. Interestingly, the top two run-scorers and wicket-takers in the tournament were both from the Guyana team, demonstrating their domination on their way to their first CPL triumph.
