At the Wankhede Stadium on Friday night, during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), skipper Hardik Pandya of the MI was fined Rs. 30 lakh for his team’s slow over-rate. According to the IPL announcement, Pandya was fined Rs. 30 lakh and prohibited from participating in the team’s next game because it was his team’s third offense of the season related to minimum over rate offenses.
The Impact Player and the other players in the playing XI were each fined Rs. 12 lakh or 50% of their respective match fees, whichever was smaller.
After a 45-minute rain break, the Lucknow Super Giants returned and defeated the Mumbai Indians by 18 runs, despite half-centuries from Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir. Nicholas Pooran hit a remarkable 28 balls for 75 runs to assist the team to a formidable total.
In just ten overs, Pooran lifted LSG from 69/3 to 200 with a brilliant 19-ball half-century that included eight sixes, making him the IPL 2024’s highest six-hitter (36) ever.
As a result, the Mumbai Indians finished last in the rankings for the second time in three years, with eight points from 14 matches. LSG finished with 14 points, but will regret their performance in a number of games that may have put them in the playoffs.
