The resignation of Rohit Sharma as captain of the Mumbai Indians has drawn harsh criticism from a large portion of the cricket community.
Suresh Raina, one of the best middle-order batsmen in India, did not hold back in criticizing the Mumbai Indians’ decision to remove Rohit Sharma from his captaincy and install Hardik Pandya in his place. Hardik has also been subjected to intense jeers from MI fans at both home and away games as a result of the management’s decision. While acknowledging that he understands the supporters’ ire over the matter, Raina asked them to keep Hardik and his family out of the conversation.
“I have no idea why he was demoted from captain. However, MI is now performing well; they won the most recent game,” Raina stated before the interviewer verified his information.
“To tell the truth, I think Rohit ought to have stayed as the Mumbai Indians captain. However, it appears that the management is hoping for a younger leader. In an interview with Lallantop, Raina said, “I believe Rohit is currently 36 or 37 years old.”
In addition, Raina believes that if the tea’s performance worsens, the choice to appoint Hardik the captain may be reversed, with Rohit assuming the position once more.
Raina responded, “I agree, that is what even I asked,” when asked how someone can be wrong to lead the team yet he can still serve as captain of Team India. What the management thinks is unknown to me. The Indian Premier League has just begun. If this was the right decision, time will tell. If MI lose three or four more games, Rohit might be named captain once more.
Regarding the booing of Hardik Pandya by spectators in the stadium, Raina remarked, “This is not acceptable. It is incorrect to say such things about him and his family. You can’t do much, though, because everyone is free to express themselves. You must learn to stay away from it.”
Currently ranked sixth in the IPL 2024 points standings, the Mumbai Indians have won three of their last seven games.
