India and Sri Lanka will battle in a three-match T20I series to kick out the new year strong. The first game will be played on January 3 at Mumbai’s prestigious Wankhede Stadium. This will be India’s first T20I series since the T20 World Cup, which will be followed by a tour to New Zealand. A new-look India team will face Sri Lanka in the T20I series, with Suryakumar Yadav serving as Hardik Pandya’s assistant. The majority of the first-team players have been rested, including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, as the young Indian team prepares to face the Lankans.

India looks to move on from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, with Hardik Pandya taking over as captain. After surprising everyone by guiding debutants Gujarat Titans to the IPL trophy, he also led well in a couple of foreign assignments to emerge as a long-term contender for T20 skipper. With Suryakumar Yadav as his deputy—it will be his first international game on home soil—first Pandya’s job will be to develop the foundation of the team for the T20 World Cup in 2024.

Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson, Deepak Hooda, and Rahul Tripathi are among the batsmen being tested. With a clear playing pattern in place, these hitters are a fantastic fit since the fearless type of cricket comes naturally to them.
