After spending two seasons as a player for GT, where he led the team to its first IPL championship in 2022, Hardik Pandya is back at MI.
In the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL), Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya, who will represent the team for the first time, stated that he wants to play a style of cricket that “no one will forget.” After the five-time winners selected Hardik to take over as captain in place of Rohit Sharma, MI sparked a heated discussion. Rumors have surfaced suggesting that Rohit and Hardik, the guy taking his place, may not be on speaking terms. Prior to the start of the new season, Hardik has been the center of attention; however, the all-rounder has assured MI supporters that they will strive to play a style of cricket that will make everyone proud.
“It makes me feel really special to wear this color. Playing when you get back home will always be special because the journey began here. We’ll make sure to play a kind of cricket that everyone can be proud of, and at the same time, it’s going to be an unforgettable experience,” Pandya stated in a video that MI uploaded.
After serving as GT’s captain for two seasons and helping the team win its first IPL championship in its 2022 season, Hardik has returned to MI.
While GT lost to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the championship game the previous season, he led them to a second-place finish.
MI head coach Mark Boucher has supported Hardik to succeed in his debut season as the team’s captain, even if the decision to replace Rohit as captain has drawn harsh criticism from supporters.
“Pandya is definitely more familiar with the changing room than I am. For some, it’s akin to returning home. He is eager for the season and has blended in quite nicely. Boucher stated in a different MI video, “We look forward to having him back and winning some games for Mumbai Indians again.”
Every season begins with much anticipation from everyone. There’s also a small amount of nervousness because there are a few unfamiliar faces. As the season approaches, we hope to build toward it,” he continued.
