Sanjay Bangar believes the 34-year-old will be ready for the upcoming series and will up his game because he enjoys playing against Australia.
The Border Gavaskar series begins in a few days, and all eyes will be on former Indian captain Virat Kohli, who has struggled for runs in the longest format of the game in recent years. Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Bangar, on the other hand, expects Kohli to fire on all cylinders in the upcoming series, which begins on February 9.
With WTC points on the line in the upcoming Test series, both India and Australia will be looking to assert their dominance in the game’s longest format. While much has been made of the nature of the pitches in the subcontinent, it is Indian batting ace Virat Kohli who can make or break the four-match series.
Kohli, who never backs down from a challenge, has a healthy average against Australia, with 1682 runs and seven centuries against the world’s top-ranked Test team. Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Bangar believes the 34-year-old will be ready for the upcoming series and will up his game because he enjoys playing against strong opponents.
“He enjoys playing against Australia. He enjoys teasing the Australian players and raises his game, and Test cricket is a format that brings out the best in Virat Kohli as well. Yes, by his standards, the last two and a half years have been less productive.
“So he would want to continue the freshness of approach that he has enjoyed in the T20 and ODI formats and now he would look to transform that into Test cricket as well. So he’ll make a big splash and have an impact in this series as well,” Bangar said.
