‘He will be first choice in most teams, but…’: Australia coach Vettori thinks India may drop top bowler for World Tennis Championship final.

After New Zealand defeated the Indian team in the first final in 2021, the World Test Championship final between India and Australia will crown a new Test champion in cricket. Due to the 2023 Indian Premier League schedule, the Indian squad reached to England in numerous groups for the match that bears its name, which takes place at The Oval in London from June 7–11. India’s best XI for the match has been a topic of discussion as the final’s date approaches. On Thursday, Daniel Vettori, a prominent former New Zealand captain who serves as Australia’s assistant coach, provided a detailed analysis of his opponents.

Assistant coach Daniel Vettori said the team management discussed India’s likely bowling assault in great detail before Australia’s training session on Thursday at the Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham.

We have discussed it, said Vettori.

Because of his batting and his track record of success at the No. 6 slot, I believe Jadeja will play.

The fourth seamer and the all-rounder in (Shardul) Thakur and Ashwin will then be in doubt, but they are (both) quite solid choices.

Despite having a respectable record in England, Vettori believes Ashwin may just miss out on a berth in the starting XI due to squad composition. The seasoned off-spinner has played just one Test at The Oval but has taken 18 wickets overall from seven matches in England at an average of 28.11.

“Ashwin is an incredible bowler and will be first choice in most teams, but just with their combinations it may lead to that (him missing selection),” Vettori said.

“We anticipate The Oval to act as it normally does.

“It is a good wicket, but as the game goes on, it can offer a lot to the spinners.”
