While batting in the Chennai Test, Rishabh Pant set the field for Bangladesh. He has described the reasoning behind the act.
Rishabh Pant, India’s swashbuckling wicket-keeper batsman, once again demonstrated his love for Test cricket. Pant’s century against Bangladesh in Chennai propelled him back to his best in whites. However, it was not just his strokeplay that drew everyone’s attention. The wicket-keeper batsman was also seen laying the field for Bangladesh during one instance, an action that MS Dhoni previously performed on the field. After the contest, Pant was asked about the behavior, and he gave an astonishing explanation.
“First and foremost, I keep talking to Ajay bhai off the field. He states that “the quality of cricket should keep improving.” Wherever you are and who you are playing against. I noticed that there was no fielder (midwicket). I spotted two fielders in the same place. So I advised them to relocate one fielder to the midfield,” Rishabh stated after the game.

Pant scored his first century in a Test since he resumed playing cricket in December 2022, following his recovery from injuries sustained in a near-fatal vehicle accident.
