Lionel Messi has spoken out about his contentious post – FIFA World Cup quarter-final clash with Netherlands star Wout Weghorst. The Argentine has expressed regret for his actions.
Argentina went on to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup, defeating defending champions France on penalties in the final. The Argentine great received many accolades for his performances in what was Messi’s first World Cup victory on the fifth attempt. However, ahead of the final, Messi was chastised for his behaviour following the quarter-finals match against the Netherlands. Messi has admitted that he was unhappy with his behaviour with Dutch manager Louis van Gaal and striker Wout Weghorst at the time.
