On the 25th anniversary of his passing, Sachin Tendulkar paid tribute to his late father.

On Sunday, the 25th anniversary of his father Ramesh Tendulkar’s passing, legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar penned a poignant tribute in memory of him. Tendulkar remarked that he still thinks his father is with him on his official X account. The 51-year-old also remembered the day when, at the age of 26, his father passed away. Tendulkar too aspires to be a good steward of his father’s principles.

Even though Baba has been gone from us for twenty-five years, he still seems to be present when I stand by his old chair. Now that I’m 51 years old, I can plainly see just how profoundly he touched my life and the lives of many others, even though I was only 26 at the time. It was very moving to return to this location on the anniversary of his death, forty-three years later. His warmth and insight still motivate me. Tendulkar wrote on X, “I hope I am living up to the values you instilled in me, Baba. I miss you every single day.”

Sachin was participating for India in the ICC event at the 1999 ODI World Cup in England when he received the news of his father’s passing. He returned to India to live with his family after this. But he soon returned to the team and participated in the match against Kenya, where he got his 22nd century in ODIs. Gazing up at the heavens, Tendulkar dedicated his century against Kenya to his father.
The great cricket player, who amassed 100 international centuries—51 in Test matches and 49 in One-Day Internationals—ended his illustrious career as the first player and now the only hitter to do so.
