India and Australia will face one other in the championship match after the Australian team maintained composure to defeat Pakistan by one wicket in the second semifinal.
Australia chased down a 180-run goal in the final over of the second semifinal of the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup 2024 before defeating Pakistan by one wicket in a thrilling last-over encounter. Australia secured a replay of the senior World Cup 2023 Final against India with this one-wicket victory over Pakistan.
With 50 off 75 balls, Harry Dixon steadied the innings, while Ollie Peake struck an amazing 49 off 75 balls and Tom Campbell got 25 off 42. Rafael MacMillan, the vice captain, maintained his composure to strike the winning runs at the end with 19* off 29 balls as the Australians ultimately lost. At the end, Vidler continued to play, contributing 3* off 9 balls. Australia just crossed the finish line, but the team in the field scored nine additional runs.
Pakistan has a history of success in the competition, having won the U19 World Cup twice previously in 2004 and 2006, but their early batting collapse proved costly. However, Australia’s U19 team has been working hard to emulate the achievements of their senior side, who have a strong record against Pakistan in both ODI and Test cricket, having won 37 of the 72 Test matches and 70 of the 108 ODIs.
With only a few days remaining before the competition ends on February 11th, the U19 World Cup is coming to a finish, and all eyes will be on the young players from Australia and India. As they compete for the coveted crown on South African soil, the matchup promises to be a showcase for cricket’s future stars.
