Shreyas Iyer scored 422 runs in 8 innings for India in Tests in 2022.

India head coach Rahul Dravid has provided an important update on Shreyas Iyer’s inclusion in the side ahead of the second of four Test series against Australia. Following a commanding victory in the first Test, Rohit Sharma and company host the Australians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

Leading to the second red-ball contest, head coach Dravid confirmed that Iyer will make the cut in the playing XI assuming he is ‘ready to go’. The flamboyant batter missed the first Test against Australia and New Zealand due to a back injury, but he has completed his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and is fully fit.

“It’s always nice to have someone back from an injury. We never want to lose people due to injury. It’s not good for us as a team, and it’s not good for the individual. I’m glad he’s back and healthy. “We’ll make a decision after a couple of days of training,” Dravid said at the pre-match press conference ahead of the second Test.

“He had a long session today and did some training. We’ll evaluate it again tomorrow after he comes in for a light hit and see how it goes. “With his past performances, he will walk straight into the XI if he is fit and ready to go and take the load of a five-day Test match,” Dravid added.
