During the first T20 International match between India and Zimbabwe in Harare, Riyan Parag made his debut for the Indian cricket squad.
It’s a rare honor to receive the classic blue Team India cap for the first time. But the moment was much more memorable for Riyan Parag because he was presented with his maiden India cap by his own father before making his debut in India’s inaugural T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare. Riyan Parag’s father, Parag Das, played first-class cricket for Assam. Riyan was also the first Assamese cricketer to represent India.Parag scored the third-most runs in IPL 2024, with 573 for the Rajasthan Royals, who finished third. His outstanding season, batting at number four, made it impossible for the selectors to overlook him, as a young India squad was selected for the five-match T20I trip of Zimbabwe.
India is playing its first series following their historic victory in the Caribbean and USA during the 2024 T20 World Cup. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja declared their retirement from Twenty20 international cricket after the tournament, opening the door for young players to establish themselves as a regular member of India’s T20I XI.
For the first time, Shubman Gill will lead Team India as captain. Having already been named Gujarat Titans captain prior to the 2024 Indian Premier League, this is his first experience leading an overseas team.
The Zimbabwe tour roster also includes three players from India’s T20 World Cup-winning squad: Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shivam Dube.
