U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025: India bowled out Malaysia for 31 in the Group stage match at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur thanks to a hat-trick and five wickets from Vaishnavi Sharma.

At the 2025 Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma became the first bowler to record a hat-trick. The tweaker made a remarkable debut on Tuesday, January 21, taking five wickets and a hat-trick in the same game. In the Group A match against Malaysia at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur, she finished with the following stats: 4-1-5-5.

Vaishnavi became the third bowler in the tournament’s history to achieve a hat-trick, joining Madison Landsman of South Africa. As the first bowler to take a hat-trick in the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, Landsman is a notable figure. She accomplished the milestone in the 2023 group stage match against Scotland, finishing with 4/12.

After Sonam Yadav was dropped from the playing XI, Vaishnavi assisted India in dismissing Malaysia for 31 in 14.3 overs. To begin her spell, she took out Nuriman Hiyada and Nur Dania Syuhada. However, she claimed a hat-trick after dismissing Siti Nazwah, Nur Isma Dania, and Nur Ain Binti Roslan.Aayushi Shukla, a fellow left-arm spinner with statistics of 3.3-1-8-3, provided Vaishnavi with the necessary support. Nuni Farini Safry, the opening batsman, was removed by Joshitha VJ, who was named Player of the Match against the West Indies. India defeated Malaysia by a score of 10 wickets thanks to Vaishnavi’s spell. In just 2.5 overs, India easily defeated the target of 32. With five fours, opener Gongadi Trisha scored an undefeated 27 from 12 balls. Trisha performed poorly against the West Indies but recovered against the home team.

G Kamalini remained undefeated on four off five balls after being acquired by the Mumbai Indians for 1.60 crore for the 2025 WPL. With the victory, India moved up to the top of Group A with four points and a +9.148 net run rate.
