In response to Mohammed Shami’s exclusion from the Asia Cup roster, Australian legend Ricky Ponting believes that Mohammed Shami’s strengths lie in the longest format and that there are stronger quick bowlers in India’s T20 setup.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Avesh Khan, and Arshdeep Singh are India’s three professional fast bowlers, and all-arounder Hardik Pandya is the team’s fourth pacer.
“For a very long time, Shiami has been a very, very good bowler for India. When you consider his strengths, Test cricket is likely where he performs best “The two-time World Cup champion captain Ponting made this statement in the most recent episode of The ICC Review.
“Shami is not the best fast bowler in Indian Twenty20 cricket, and they have only picked three others (for the Asia Cup). He might be the fourth player on the squad if there are four potential names.”
Many believed Shami may be included to share the new-ball duties during the Asia Cup since Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel were still recovering from their ailments.
“They’ll probably only send the four quicks to Australia, in my opinion. Despite the likely unfavourable wickets, they’ll still want to bring a lot of spin here “said Ponting. From August 27 to September 11, Dubai and Sharjah will host the Asia Cup, with Ponting picking India as the favourite to win. To be completely honest, Ponting claimed, “Looking back the last 15 or 20 years, it’s one that we’ve been starved of.”

Ponting thinks India has the strength to defeat Pakistan.
“I’ll continue to support India in that matchup with Pakistan. That doesn’t diminish Pakistan’s status as a fantastic cricketing nation that consistently produces superstar athletes.”
