On Thursday, Baroda defeated Sikkim in Indore, scoring 349 runs for five wickets in 20 overs, setting a new team total in T20 cricket. With this incredible achievement, they became the first team to win the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with more than 300 runs. In T20 cricket, Zimbabwe previously held the record for the highest team total after defeating Gambia earlier this October with 344.
With 134 off just 51 deliveries, batsman Bhanu Pania led the Baroda squad and remained undefeated. Shivalik Sharma, Abhimanyu Singh, and Vishnu Solanki all made substantial half-century contributions.Notably, Hardik Pandya, an all-rounder for India who played in the tournament’s previous stages, was left off of the starting lineup for this game.
Punjab had the highest team total in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy before, scoring 275 runs against Andhra in the previous tournament installment.
