Pat Cummins has returned home due to family obligations.
If regular Test skipper Pat Cummins remains unavailable for the remainder of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 against India, Australia cricketer Steve Smith has been named as a standby captain.
Pat Cummins returned to Australia following Australia’s second consecutive loss to India in the four-match Test series due to family-related health issues. Even though the Australian captain hinted that he would be back before the third Test began, there is still no guarantee.
Despite all of the concerns, there is one ray of hope for Australia’s management: Cameron Green is expected to return for the third Test. Initially, Green was nursing a finger injury and the management was concerned about his availability, but the report now suggests that the 23-year-old has been responding well to his recovery procedure and could be ready to play by March 1.
Mitchell Swepson, who has returned from Australia after attending the birth of his first child, may also be given a chance in the third Test. The Australian management has been chastised for making unnecessarily last-minute changes to their side, particularly by focusing more on playing spinners, which has completely backfired on them.
