Shreyas Iyer has been sidelined with a back injury.
Shreyas Iyer, a talented Indian batter, is likely to miss the first Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, which is set to begin on February 9 in Nagpur. The 28-year-old was India’s leading run-scorer in the 2022 season, so this is a huge blow for Rohit Sharma’s team. In the absence of Rishabh Pant, Iyer could have been a pillar in the middle order, but the burden will now fall on someone else.
Is there, however, anyone worthy of performing in the same manner as Shreyas? Here is a list of three cricketers who can replace the number five batsman in the Test series against Australia:
Three players who could replace Shreyas Iyer in the first Test against Australia:
3.KS Bharat
KS Bharat, despite travelling with the squad for every series, has yet to make his Test debut. He has been a fantastic wicketkeeper, but his batting has been inconsistent in First Class cricket.
2. Suryakumar Yadav
When it comes to white-ball cricket, the flamboyant batter Suryakumar Yadav is one of the first names on the team sheet. However, he has yet to earn his first cap in red-ball cricket. He has been successful in First Class cricket, but his style of play is often regarded as unsuitable for Test cricket. As a result, despite his efforts, the cricketer was unable to break through.
1. Shubman Gill
With KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma both available for selection, Shubman Gill may miss out on a spot at the top of the order. The 23-year-old can, however, bat in the middle order, replacing Shreyas Iyer. He doesn’t have much experience batting in the middle order, but given his talent, Gill should be fine for the Nagpur Test.
