In the current World Test Championship cycle, young Indian batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal is 132 runs away from making history.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, a young Indian batsman, is 132 runs away from making history in the present World Test Championship (WTC). Jaiswal is slated to open the batting alongside skipper Rohit Sharma in a two-match Test series against Bangladesh, which begins September 19 in Chennai. Jaiswal, who has 1028 runs in the World Test Championship 2023-25, hopes to make history when India face Bangladesh in the series opener. If the 22-year-old hits 132 runs in the two Tests, he will become the Indian batter with the most runs in a single edition of the World Test Championship.
He will surpass former Indian captain Ajinkya Rahane, who hit 1159 runs in the WTC 2019-21 cycle. Jaiswal is one of just three Indian batsmen, along with Rahane and Rohit, to score 1000 runs in a single WTC cycle.
Yashasvi Jaiswal aims to overtake Joe Root.
Meanwhile, Jaiswal is tied for second in the WTC 2023-25 scoring lists with England’s Ben Duckett, with 1,028 runs.
However, he just needs 371 runs to overtake Joe Root, who now leads the race with 1,398.With a points percentage of 68.52, the Indian cricket team is presently atop the WTC standings. Bangladesh (two home tests), New Zealand (three home tests), and Australia (five away tests) are their next opponents in the WTC series.
After defeating Pakistan 2-0 to win their first Test series on Pakistani territory, Bangladesh’s team is also playing at its best. The squad won the first Test by a convincing 10-wicket margin and the second by six wickets.
