The first-ever men’s Hockey 5s Asia Cup will be held in Salalah, Oman on Saturday. India defeated Malaysia 10-4 in the semifinals to set up a matchup with arch-rivals Pakistan. Pakistan won the first semi-final 7-3 over Oman to advance to the championship game. When India and the opposition last faced off during the tournament, Pakistan prevailed 5-4 in the elite pool stage match.
For India, goals came from Mohammed Raheel (9, 16, 24, and 28 minutes), Maninder Singh (2), Pawan Rajbhar (13), Sukhvinder (21), Dipsan Tirkey (22), Jugraj Singh (23), and Gurjot Singh (29), while Malaysia’s captain Ismail Asia Abu (4), Akhimullah Anuar (7, 19), and Muhamad Din (19) scored.
India’s participation in the 2024 FIH Hockey 5s World Cup was also secured by the victory.
Later on in the day, Pakistan and India will compete in the championship game.
