India defeats England by 347 runs to claim the biggest victory in women’s Test history

India’s 347-run victory over England set a new record for the largest women’s Test victory, beating Sri Lanka’s previous best of 309 against Pakistan.

India defeated England by 347 runs in the one-off match on Saturday at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, making history in women’s Test cricket history in terms of wins (by runs).

India dismissed the visiting side for 131 in 27.3 overs after declaring on its overnight score of 186 for six, setting a massive 478-run mark.

India tied its record in the format with six losses and 27 draws after its sixth victory in 39 Test matches. The victory margin by India is only the second time in women’s Test history that a team has won by more than 300 runs; the record was set by Sri Lanka against Pakistan in 1998 with a margin of 309 runs.

Additionally, it was India’s first victory against England at home, increasing their unbeaten record against the English to 3-1 in 15 matches.

After winning the toss, India scored 428 runs in the first innings, which was a record for both first-innings and overall totals. It was also the first women’s Test innings with a run rate above 4 rpo, thanks to India’s 4.09 run rate throughout the innings.

Additionally, Harmanpreet Kaur’s team scored their highest amount in a Test match with 614 runs over two innings.

The next Test match between India and Australia will take place as a one-off in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on December 21–24.
