India won the women’s U-19 T20 World Cup championship for the second consecutive year here on Sunday after crushing South Africa by nine wickets in the final. India scored 84 for one in 11.2 overs, completing the task with 52 balls remaining after chasing a meager goal of 83.
Sanika Chalke was still alive with 26 off 22 balls, while Gongadi Trisha led India in scoring with an undefeated 44 off 33 balls.
Prior to that, Trisha (3/15) led the Indian bowlers in a brilliant display that saw them dismiss South Africa for 82 in 20 overs.
Parunika Sisodia (2/6), Aayushi Shukla (2/9) and Vaishnavi Sharma (2/23) also contributed with the ball for India.
After choosing to take first strike, South Africa’s batting collapsed, with 23-year-old Mieke van Voorst leading the way. Four of their hitters were unable to open their accounts, and only four of them were able to score in double figures.
