They restricted India to 229/9 in 50 overs. Despite Rohit Sharma’s good start, the Indian innings was marred by repeated wicket losses, most notably Virat Kohli’s rare World Cup duck. Skipper Rohit Sharma batted brilliantly and teamed with several teammates but fell 13 runs short of a century, leaving at 87. Surya Kumar Yadav and KL Rahul scored a few runs, giving England a solid target to chase.
Mohammed Shami took four wickets to send Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, and Adil Rashid back to the pavilion.
