The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has confirmed its support for the event, which is a significant boost to traditional sports.

The first-ever Kho Kho World Cup will be held in India from January 13-19, 2025, at the renowned IGI Stadium in New Delhi, marking a watershed moment in traditional sports history. In a significant boost to the competition, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has officially confirmed its cooperation with the World Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI), guaranteeing constant support. In a letter to KKFI President Sudhanshu Mittal, IOA President PT Usha reaffirmed the organization’s strong commitment to promoting indigenous sports such as Kho Kho. The IOA has promised to provide extensive assistance to increase the tournament’s profile, assuring maximum outreach and success.

“We appreciate the value of this event in celebrating our cultural history and supporting traditional sports, and we look forward to working with the Kho Kho Federation of India to ensure the tournament’s success. “We hope to make this event memorable and impactful, encouraging the spirit of sportsmanship among participants and fostering a deeper appreciation for Kho Kho worldwide,” PT Usha stated, according to a KKFI announcement.

Sudhanshu Mittal, KKFI president, expressed deep gratitude to the IOA for the enormous boost the collaboration provides to the competition. “The IOA’s support, led by President PT Usha, is game-changing for Kho Kho. This partnership is critical to putting Kho Kho on the global map, and we’re excited to host the sport’s first-ever World Cup,” Mittal said.

The Kho Kho World Cup will include both men’s and women’s teams, with 24 countries from six continents expected to compete. Teams from Asia, including hosts India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, will compete against those from Africa, Europe, North America, South America, and Oceania. According to the release, nations such as Ghana, Kenya, England, Germany, Brazil, and Australia will participate, showcasing Kho Kho’s rising worldwide appeal. Kho Kho is about to reach new heights thanks to this exciting, multi-nation competition that will generate excitement and ignite interest in the sport globally. The World Cup is poised to become a landmark event in the history of the sport with IOA’s support, encouraging both competitors and spectators to embrace Kho Kho.
