Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, has revealed that the board plans to publish a call for applications to select a new head coach, because Rahul Dravid finishes his term in June.

An announcement about the hiring of a new head coach is expected soon, according to Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jay Shah. After the 2023 ODI World Cup, Rahul Dravid, the head coach of Team India since November 2021, had his contract extended. However, with the board soon to provide the job description for a new coach, it doesn’t appear that Dravid will receive a longer contract. In June, Dravid’s contract with the BCCI to coach the Indian team expires because the team would also be competing in the T20 World Cup.

In November 2023, Dravid and his assistants signed a contract extending their tenure as the Indian team’s head coach. However, the extended contract’s validity was limited to June 30, 2024.

Dravid is still eligible to apply for the position, according to Jay Shah, but there won’t be a rolling one-year contract like there was in the past.

“Rahul’s contract only lasts until June. Thus, the BCCI secretary informed Cricbuzz, “He is free to apply if he so chooses. He also declined to rule out the possibility of hiring a foreign coach.”

Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, and other active international stars have been vocal in their opposition of the Impact Player rule, which Shah was also questioned about. Shah promised to talk to the relevant parties about the issue and determine if the rule should continue.

“Impact Player served as an exemplar. “I am aware that the rule impedes the development of all-rounders, but two new Indian players are getting an opportunity in the IPL,” he said. Before making a decision about the Impact Player’s future, we will consult with the broadcasters and franchises. Though no one has voiced objections to the rule, it’s not permanent.
