Veteran bowler Jaydev Undakat chose to play for Sussex in the County Championship after being passed over for a berth in the BCCI’s declared Duleep Trophy lineup.

Jaydev Unadkat, one of the best bowlers in India’s local red-ball league, has had a fascinating career thus far. Unadkat has taken enough of wickets in domestic cricket, but for some reason, selectors have not thought of him while choosing players for Test matches. His chances of being in the starting XI have been extremely slim, even when he has made the team. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors declined to consider him for the Duleep Trophy squads as the Indian team prepared for the forthcoming Test season. The left-arm pacer made the decision to sign with Sussex, an English county team, with the hopes of making an impression on selectors by taking a different route.

I’m overjoyed to be back here. My second home is Hove. The team has been playing great this year, and maybe in the second half of the campaign, we’ll succeed and return to division one, where we belong! Cheers “In a video that Sussex shared on social media, Unadkat exclaimed.

Unadkat dazzled everyone during his debut season at Sussex, taking 11 wickets in four games as the squad placed third in Division 2.

The news that Jaydev will be playing the final five championship games of the upcoming season at the 1st Central County Ground makes us all very happy.

Jaydev exceeded expectations by demonstrating not only his class on the field but also his wonderful personality and willingness to contribute to our shared goals. He continued, “Jaydev is a great guy who did everything he could to support our athletes and impart his incredible knowledge.

Unadkat was a member of the Indian team that went to the West Indies the previous year. In July 2023, he made his final appearance for the national team during the second Test match between the two teams.
