India vs South Africa may have benefited from Mohammed Shami, the leading wicket-taker in the Cricket World Cup 2023.

The first Test between India and South Africa was greatly felt without Mohammed Shami. While South Africa’s batsmen piled on runs, the Indian cricket team’s pacers let runs get away. Due to the underperformance of individuals like Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah lacked the necessary backing. Mohammed Shami, the leading wicket-taker in the Cricket World Cup 2023, would have come in useful in this circumstance. He missed the series, though, as he is recovering from an injury.

Shami did not play well at the World Cup, according to a report by news agency PTI captioned “Prasidh’s performance hints at bare bench strength”.

Shahi suffers from a persistent problem with his left heel. He played the entire World Cup in discomfort and received frequent injections, something that many people are unaware of. A former Bengal colleague of Shami, who was aware of his circumstances and spoke to PTI on the condition of anonymity, said, “But you have to understand that as you get older, recovery from each niggle or big injury takes that extra time.”

In the first remarks following the Men in Blue’s six-wicket loss to Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023 final, Mohammed Shami expressed disappointment on behalf of the country. Speaking to the media, Shami stated that the hosts did everything they could to maintain the tournament’s momentum and win the championship match.

The 33-year-old continued by saying that they were unable to pinpoint their mistakes in the 2023 ODI World Cup final match against Australia.

“The loss of India in the World Cup disappointed the entire country.” We gave it our all to maintain the momentum we had built and win the championship. However, it is inexplicable where we made a mistake towards the finish,” Shami remarked.

PM Narendra Modi consoled the players in the changing room following India’s defeat. The meeting’s footage was extensively circulated. PM Modi gave Shami a hug and complimented him on his performance at the meeting. Social media users had conflicting opinions about the video when it became viral.

“After the loss, we were sitting dejectedly, our hearts devastated. It felt like the result of one match nullified two months of hard work. We were miserable since it was our awful day, but you had to hold your head up when the PM walks in. Modiji just walked in without even informing us that he was going to be there. We weren’t even in the mood to eat or chat earlier, so when he arrived, we were quite taken aback,” Shami remarked.
