Washington Sundar has been called up to fill in for the injured Axar Patel in the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka on Sunday.
For Sunday’s Asia Cup final versus Sri Lanka in place of the injured Axar Patel, Washington Sundar has been called up. In India’s final Super Four game on Friday against Bangladesh, which they lost by six runs, Axar suffered many injuries. As it is currently uncertain how severe Axar’s injuries are, bowling all-rounder Washington, who was a member of India’s Asian Games team, has been recalled as a precaution. “Axar is now dealing with several wounds. He suffered a broken little finger, was struck on the forearm by a throw from deep, and most significantly, he strained his hamstring. Washington has thus been contacted, a BCCI source who spoke to PTI under the condition of anonymity said.
With just three weeks until the World Cup, Axar’s hamstring problem will worry the Indian team management more than the swelling on his forehand.
Washington, an off-spinner, last competed in an ODI at home against New Zealand in January of this year.
