The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Tuesday that Rishabh Pant has been certified fit to bat as a wicketkeeper in the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL).
Pant has not played for India since its tour of Bangladesh due to a horrific car accident that occurred in December 2022. The captain of the Delhi Capitals did not play in the IPL in 2023 either.
Pant had a fractured wrist and ankle in the accident, in addition to a significant right knee injury that necessitated ligament repair surgery. However, he did a good job of recovering.
The news that Pant can once again keep wickets is a major plus for India ahead of the T20 World Cup in June. BCCI secretary Jay Shah stated on Monday that, depending on his ability to play as a wicketkeeper or not, the 26-year-old could be considered for a spot in the national team for the international competition.
“He is keeping up well and batting well.” We’ll quickly proclaim him fit. It would be very significant for us if he could represent us in the T20 World Cup. He is really helpful to us. He can play in the World Cup if he can keep. Shah had stated, “Let’s see how he does in the IPL.”
