Preview: In the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2024), Mumbai Indians (MI) will play their archrivals, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. After six games this season, MI won their second straight by a comfortable seven wicket margin against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

However, despite losing their previous two games against the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), CSK easily defeated the poor 138-run target set by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). It’s going to be a delicious match because both sides are coming into it fresh off of victorious run-chases.

Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan are MI’s two aggressive openers up top. Effective for the side is the left-right combo. When batting in Mumbai, their record is rather good. Rohit Sharma appeared to be a more invigorated batsman with the ability to take big balls to the bowlers when the responsibility of captaincy was removed from him.

Rohit was more than content to watch Kishan go all guns blazing at the other end of the field as he went absolutely bonkers in MI’s previous match against RCB, smashing the bowlers to all areas of the ground the route to a quickburg.

Pitch Report: The surface at Eden Gardens is renowned for being well-balanced, offering help to bowlers as well as batsmen. It is anticipated that the surface would have seam movement and swing early in the game, which will benefit the fast bowlers. The pitch will, however, probably becoming more bat-friendly as the game goes on, giving the hitters greater chances to score runs. The surface may also help the spinners, but only to a limited extent—especially considering it’s the opening game of the season and the pitch might not be ideal for spin bowling.

PROBABLE PLAYING XI

Mumbai Indians(MI): Ishan Kishan (wk), Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya (c), Tilak Varma, Tim David, Mohammad Nabi, Romario Shepherd, Shreyas Gopal, Jasprit Bumrah, Gerald Coetzee

Chennai Super Kings(CSK): Rachin Ravindra, Ruturaj Gaikwad (c), Daryl Mitchell, Shivam Dube, MS Dhoni (wk), Ajinkya Rahane, Sameer Rizvi, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Tushar Deshpande, Maheesh Theekshana
