In the IPL 2025 super auction, Rishabh Pant changed the course of history by surpassing Shreyas Iyer’s fleeting record as the most expensive player by just a few minutes.

For ₹27 crore, the Lucknow Super Giants purchased Rishabh Pant at the IPL 2025 mega auction, making him the most expensive player in IPL history. Only minutes before, Punjab Kings had surpassed Mitchell Starc’s previous record of ₹24.75 crore from the previous year by acquiring Shreyas Iyer for ₹26.75 crore. Following the deployment of their Right to Match (RTM) card against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Arshdeep Singh became the first player to be sold at auction, selling for ₹18 crore to Punjab Kings.

David Miller, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammed Shami, and KL Rahul were among the top players at the Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, auction, which was anticipated to draw high bids. Franchises will propose players for expedited bidding on Day 2 of the two-day event, which started with 84 elite players on Day 1.
Each team had a maximum bid of ₹120 crore going into the auction, and because Punjab Kings only kept two players, they had the highest bid of ₹110.5 crore. For teams trying to reassemble their teams from a pool of 574 players—204 spots are up for grabs across ten franchises—the IPL 2025 auction is crucial.
