The three-match Twenty20 International series between India and Ireland will begin on August 18, with the first match taking place in Malahide.

Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal astonished everyone with their mammoth 165-run partnership during India’s fourth T20I against the West Indies on Saturday. When asked to bowl first, the Hardik Pandya-led side held West Indies to 178/8 in 20 overs and then chased down the goal with three overs to spare. The two, however, failed to produce in the fifth T20I, which India lost by eight wickets. Following this series, Team India will play a three-match T20I series against Ireland.

India’s top pacer Jasprit Bumrah will lead the visitors in the three T20Is against Ireland. The Indian management has picked a younger side to face Ireland, with Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan resting.

Former India opener Aakash Chopra expressed unhappiness about the absence of the opening pair and remarked that merely playing in the IPL will not help Team India win the T20 World Cup.

“I believe we are not taking T20Is seriously.” Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill are not travelling to Ireland. I understand why people require breaks. But from now till the T20 World Cup, we have 14 matches. Don’t think about the IPL; everyone plays well in the IPL, but that doesn’t imply we’ll win the World Cup. “In fact, the only time we won it was when the IPL wasn’t even there,” Chopra stated on his YouTube channel.

“International games are crucial. If you’re playing three matches against Ireland… Ishan Kishan was rested for the third and fourth T20Is against the West Indies, and I don’t think he’ll play in the fifth. He’s not going to Ireland either. If Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul are fit, what are his chances of participating in the Asia Cup? You could have played against Ireland; your first Asia Cup encounter is in September, so you had plenty of time. Nobody seems to be thinking about it. “These are young people, I don’t think they need much rest,” he added.
