Before the 2024 Indian Premier League season officially began, Mumbai Indians wicketkeeper and batsman Ishan Kishan spoke out about the Ranji Trophy scandal and the BCCI contract snub.
Mumbai Indians crushed Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match on Thursday. Ishan Kishan, the wicket-keeper batter, was in excellent form. With 69 runs off of just 34 balls to set the stage for Mumbai Indians’ 197-run chase, Ishan displayed his full potential in the game’s shortest format. During the game, Ishan spoke with the media about the contentious weeks leading up to the Indian Premier League, during which his future with the squad was called into doubt.
Ishan reportedly did not make himself available for international selection in the months that followed his withdrawal from the South Africa series due to mental exhaustion. Despite being urged to play the Ranji Trophy by BCCI secretary Jay Shah and head coach Rahul Dravid, he chose to train for the IPL with MI captain Hardik Pandya.
Ishan revealed the story by saying, “I was practicing. People were chatting a lot when I stepped away from the game. A lot happened on social media. However, you should also be aware that a lot of things are outside of the players’ control.”
During the hiatus, Ishan’s perspective shifted significantly. His explanation provided a profound insight into his mental process, particularly how he dealt with poor points in his career.
All you can do is make good use of your time. Also, considering the previous Ishan Kishan, I would never leave a delivery in the first two overs, even if they bowled effectively. With experience, I’ve learned that even 20 overs is a big game; you can take your time and move forward. Despite losing matches, we want to work as a team.
