When Rahul Tewatia smoked Anrich Nortje for a hat-trick of sixes in the penultimate over while Gujarat was chasing 131, Gujarat appeared to be well on their way to victory. He failed to do the same against Ishant, and as Gujarat added 125/6 before running out of deliveries, Rilee Rossouw caught him for 20(7) within the 30-yard-circle. Delhi Capitals made a great start to the 130-run defence by bringing Gujarat to 32/4 in the eighth over. Then, for the fifth wicket, Hardik Pandya and Abhinav Manohar added 62 runs, but it came at an extremely slow rate.
Khaleel Ahmed removed Manhor for 26 (33), but Hardik returned unblemished on 59 (53). In the first five overs, Mohammed Shami completely destroyed the Delhi top order, causing them to lose half of their side. Shami took four wickets and only allowed 11 runs while fulfilling his whole quota. Aman Khan and Axar Patel then put up a fight, adding 50 runs for the sixth wicket until Mohit Sharma ran Axar out for 27(30). Aman held his ground at the other end and added another 50 runs to his half-century partnership with Ripal Patel. In the last over, Ripal was out for 23(13).
