Jason Holder has previously played in the IPL for the Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals.
Playing down burnout concerns, star all-rounder and former West Indies captain Jason Holder backed the scheduling of the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) ahead of the T20 World Cup next year, saying the premier domestic event would provide an ideal platform for cricketers to showcase their skills in the game’s shortest format and make a strong case for selection for the showpiece tournament. Holder told ANI exclusively on Thursday that getting more game time and hitting peak condition ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup will be advantageous.
“Playing T20 cricket in the lead-up to a World Cup is always beneficial.” The IPL starting before the T20 World Cup would undoubtedly assist. It would also help the players mentally prepare,” Holder told ANI.
When asked which franchise he would like to play for in the IPL next year, the 32-year-old stated he had a ‘good time’ with both Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and he wouldn’t mind playing for any of these two teams in the next season of the cash-rich domestic T20 competition.
He was quick to clarify, however, that it was not up to him to select which side he would represent in the IPL next year.
“I’ve had a good time with both the Sunrisers (Hyderabad) and the Chennai Super Kings.” “It would be nice to return to one of those two teams, but it is not in my hands,” the West Indian, who stands over 6ft tall, continued.
The Caribbean represented the CSK in the tournament’s 2013 season. Holder, however, was traded to Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the 2015 season.
Again, he was sold to Rajasthan Royals (RR) before of the last season of the IPL for Rs. 5.75 crores. Holder had four wickets in eight matches for the Royals.
On the significance of franchise cricket in today’s world, the Barbadian believes that it is critical for a player to evaluate and appraise his work load and the grind of international cricket before entering franchise-based events.
“I believe it has a place. I believe it is critical to comprehend the significance of international cricket. I don’t believe any of these leagues would be conceivable if international cricket did not exist. “I believe it’s critical to understand your work on the international stage before branching out into franchise cricket,” the 32-year-old remarked.
Holder spoke on his performance in the Abu Dhabi T20 League, where he is representing the Samp Army, and claimed he was thrilled to smash a couple sixes in the event.
The Caribbean stated that he hoped to win the League for the Samp Army.
“I’ve done well so far.” I bowled very effectively and hit a few overhead boundaries. So far, it’s been beneficial to me. I am quite pleased with how things have been going for me here. “I’m hoping we win the Samp Army competition,” the Caribbean stated.
In terms of the West Indies’ preparation for the 2018 T20 World Cup, he stated that the series against England and Australia would be crucial for the Caribbeans because it would be their final opportunity to play together before the crucial ICC championship.
Holder believes the franchise competitions will also assist the team in settling in before the T20 World Cup.The 32-year-old also expressed his excitement for the T20 World Cup in 2024.”We have a series against England and then Australia coming up.” Those two series, I feel, will be really vital for us. Those are our final chances to get together as a team before the big World Cup. I suppose players will be able to play in between a few franchise tournaments. I believe that is adequate preparation for the World Cup. “I am very excited about the T20 World Cup in 2024,” Holder remarked.
Holder made his T20I debut against New Zealand in 2014 and has since taken 57 wickets in 55 outings for the West Indies. He has scored 407 runs in 55 T20Is.
Holder was also a member of the West Indies squad that won the T20 World Cup in 2016.
