Mumbai Indians defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru by seven wickets at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, their second IPL victory. After Jasprit Bumrah’s incredible five-wicket haul, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan supplied the pyrotechnics with the bat. Mumbai Indians crushed RCB’s 197-run goal in only 15.3 overs as Kishan went on a rampaging rampage, scoring 69 off just 34 balls (7x4s, 5x6s), and Suryakumar wowed with a 19-ball 52 marked by four sixes and five fours. With the help of captain Faf du Plessis (61), Rajat Patidar (50), and Dinesh Karthik’s 23-ball 53 not out, RCB huffed andpuffed their way to a tough 196/8, but the total was unfortunately insufficient.
Kishan set the tone for an aggressive reply on a calm deck when he ripped through Mohammed Siraj, hitting the Indian pacer for three sixes and a four, to get 23 runs off his second over.
After RCB brought in Glenn Maxwell in the sixth over, the attack persisted. The MI opener quickly reached his maiden fifty of the year off of only 23 balls by smashing two fours and a six.
Together with Rohit Sharma, Kishan once again created a crucial partnership for Mumbai, scoring 101 runs off of 53 balls for the first wicket.
Even though Rohit (38 off 24 balls, 3x4s, 3x6s) was below both Kishan and Suryakumar in terms of scoring, the former MI captain still produced some amazing strokes prior to being caught off rookie Will Jacks by Reece Topley with a magnificent one-handed diving grab at short fine leg.
After being dropped at backward point by Glenn Maxwell on 15, Suryakumar attacked Akash Deep in the 11th over, scoring 24 runs with three sixes and one four.
In just his second game following his injury return, Suryakumar was given plenty of deliveries by RCB’s inept bowlers to help him get back into form. The world’s top T20 hitter duly delivered, hitting a fifty off just 17 balls.
MI captain Pandya was occasionally heckled during the match, which saw partisan supporters yelling loudly for both India players Rohit and Virat Kohli.
A part of the crowd started screaming “Hardik… Hardik” when Pandya stepped out to bat, and Kohli promptly encouraged them to support the India all-rounder.
Hardik’s 6-ball 21 not out included three sixes, which made it more difficult for the supporters to jeer him.
Prior to Karthik’s masterful performance in the last overs, which brought RCB dangerously near to 200, Bumrah had used his magic to capture five wickets.
Bumrah’s accuracy and control over variety allowed him to take the lead once more in a match when his fellow pacers made frequent mistakes.
Bumrah extended his regular run at this stadium in the IPL by catching the in-form Kohli (3) early on, combining his scorching yorkers with pinpoint bouncers to perfection.
After adding 82 runs for the third wicket, Du Plessis and Patidar both banished their bad runs with half-centuries, but Bumrah, who bowled three overs after the halfway point, appeared to have broken the back of RCB’s fight with an excellent spell.
Karthik concluded with five fours and four sixes. He seemed to like Akash Madhwal (1/57) and amassed 38 runs in his two overs.Although Patidar was a little hesitant at beginning, he gained confidence and reached his first fifty of the season, finishing at 50 from 26 balls with three fours and four sixes, while du Plessis scored 61 from 40 balls, again full of fours and three sixes.
